Motor City Bowl finally invites BYU
Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999 | 10:37 a.m.
The Motor City Bowl has officially extended Brigham Young an at-large invitation to participate in the event.
The Cougars of the Mountain West Conference will meet the Mid-American Conference champion, either Marshall or Western Michigan, on Dec. 27.
The official invite ends speculation that the Motor City Bowl was wavering on the Cougars and that 8-3 BYU might spend the holidays at home.
"We are delighted to have BYU in the Motor City Bowl," said Ken Hoffman, the game's executive director. "BYU's national appeal combines with its national ranking (No. 25) and great reputation to offer an outstanding opponent for the MAC champion."
BYU is one of three Mountain West teams who shared the inaugural conference title. Colorado State, which was deemed the league champion on a tie-breaker, will meet Southern Mississippi in the Liberty Bowl on New Year's Eve while Utah squares off against Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl Dec. 18.
