Letter: Mass transit the answer, not ‘toy’

Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999 | 9:40 a.m.

In a town of big thinkers, why can't we have a real, countywide subway system, with spurs in the northwest and northeast, a stop downtown, a central hub at Sahara and the Strip, stops at Desert Inn, Flamingo and Tropicana, and another central hub at the airport, with spurs connecting the southeast and southwest?

Why can't the Union-Pacific tracks be incorporated into the system and take the route to Stateline and Laughlin? As proposed, this monorail appears totally useless to those of us who live here. Does anyone doubt that we will grow into it? Build us a real subway, big shots, not a toy.
