The 23rd annual Parade of Lights will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, beginning at the Lake Mead Marina.

The brightly decorated boats will parade south off Boulder Beach to Hemenway Harbor before returning to the marina.

Up to 50 sail and power boats ranging from 16 feet to 50 or more may be seen in the parade, all lighted and decorated in brilliant colors and designs to celebrate the holiday season.

Opening set Saturday for Desert Breeze

The opening of the Desert Breeze Skate Park will be held noon-4 p.m. Saturday.

The recently completed 5,000-square-foot facility includes areas for beginners and experts, 45-degree ramps, 450 feet worth of edge riding with coping and 250 feet worth of pipes. The event is being hosted by the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department.

County Commissioner Erin Kenny kicks off the event with a dedication at noon followed by skateboarding demonstration by Sub Skates at 12:15 p.m. Regular hours at the park will be 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Call 455-8200.

Sale will benefit schools in need

Residents of Southern Nevada can purchase their Christmas trees and support local schools during a special fund-raiser 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Cambeiro Elementary School, 2851 Harris St.

The event will benefit four of the valley's neediest schools -- Arturo Cambeiro, Kit Carson, Walter Bracken and Halle Hewertson elementary schools.

A truck filled with fresh Belgium Scotch pines from Wisconsin will arrive at Cambeiro Elementary and will be priced at $35 for 6- to 7-foot trees and $40 for 8- to 10-foot trees. Call 799-1700.

Broder will speak at Artemus Ham Hall

Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David Broder of the Washington Post will speak at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at UNLV's Artemus Ham Concert Hall as part of the Barrick Lecture Series.

Free tickets for his presentation, "American Politics: 200 and Beyond," may be picked up at the Performing Arts Center box office at Ham Hall. Call 895-2787.

Business roundtable

The Women's Business Breakfast Roundtable, "Get Organized for Success," will be held 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at the Business Information Center, 1951 Stella Lake St. The cost is $10 per person.

Fashion design

The Nevada Association of Fashion Design will have an open house at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Donald C. Moyer Student Union at UNLV. Call 388-6684.

A free women's self defense seminar is being offered 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Anderson's White Tiger Studio, 4255H E. Charleston Blvd., in the Raley's/Home Depot Shopping Center.

Movie Guys

The Movie Guys with Jeff and Dave -- film critics for KVVU Channel 5 and the Las Vegas Sun -- and Planet Hollywood will present a celebrity event to support the Salvation Army's Adopt-a-Christmas Angel program noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Planet Hollywood at the Forum Shops at Caesars.
