A 20-year-old Las Vegas man was sentenced to 71 months in prison Monday for running over a Las Vegas Metro Police officer's legs with a car.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Ko said District Judge Philip Pro sentenced Terry Brown after he also pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon.
According to authorities, Metro Sgt. Al Cervantes was assisting two FBI agents in the apprehension of a robbery suspect last September when the suspect began yelling for help.
During the commotion, Brown got into a Saturn, backed up into Cervantes and an FBI agent and ran over Cervantes' legs. Officers fired several shots at the vehicle, at which time Brown tried to run back over the officers by going forward.
Brown was arrested a short time later at Budget Suites, 4855 Boulder Highway.
Ko said Brown was charged with two counts of assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon, but the second count was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Brown still faces sentencing on three unrelated robbery charges in state court, Ko said.
