District Judge Jeffrey Sobel has set Oct. 12 for sentencing of inmate Roy B. Bell, who escaped from the Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs by hiding in the undercarriage of a delivery truck in January.

Bell, who pleaded guilty to one felony count Monday in District Court, was arrested several days after his escape in Las Vegas after a pizza restaurant was robbed.

The Department of Prisons beefed up its security at Indian Springs after the Bell escape, Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa said.

At the time of his escape Bell was serving concurrent sentences for two counts of robbery with use of a deadly weapon against a person 65 years or older.

On the escape charge he faces a maximum of 10 years.
