Man wounded in drive-by shooting
Monday, Aug. 30, 1999 | 11:43 a.m.
A man shot early today while driving his car in the 1800 block of McDaniel Street is in stable condition at University Medical Center this morning.
The incident is being investigated as possibly gang related as opposed to a random thrill shooting, North Las Vegas Police spokesman Chris Larotonda said.
The victim, who was not identified but is said to be in his late teens or early 20s, was driving about 1:30 a.m. when a car with two male occupants pulled up beside him and fired into his vehicle, police said.
He suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and an arm, Larotonda said, noting that the chest wound did not involve vital organs.
The victim told police he could not imagine why anyone would shoot him but said his friends had been having trouble with others, Larotonda said.
After the shooting, the victim drove his vehicle up on the sidewalk, through a series of bushes and struck a light pole in the Sav-on drugstore parking lot in the 1900 block of McDaniel near East Lake Mead Boulevard, Larotonda said.
Police are looking for a newer model silver or gray Toyota Tacoma pickup in connection with the shooting.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at 633-9111 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
