Letter: Politicians haven’t followed up on homeowner groups
Monday, Aug. 30, 1999 | 9:14 a.m.
I have a personal letter of May 20, 1998, from Kenny Guinn, who at the time was a candidate for governor. He stated he was aware of the growing number of people residing in these associations and that their concerns were valid. He also stated he had met with owners. Have any of the troubled owners heard about these problems from him since he was elected? No!
I personally spoke to then Mayor-elect Oscar Goodman at Sen. Mike Schneider's subcommittee meeting about Senate Bill 451. Goodman volunteered that his mother had once lived in a homeowners association and he subsequently moved her out! He added these problems were political and therefore he was unafraid to address these problems. Has anyone heard Oscar refer to these problems since he was elected? No!
Thanks to Schneider, our new SB451 attempted to "fine-tooth" many of the ambiguities contained in previous legislation. However, Mike's hopes have become a nightmare! Why? Several attorneys, managers and boards of directors have refused to abide by the laws newly set forth.
What good are laws if the elected "powers that be" are of no help when existing laws are not followed?
