Free ice show planned for kids
The Las Vegas Sportspark will hold its first Kids All-Star Ice show today, featuring more than 70 students showcasing their figure-skating skills.
The free show will begin at 5:15 p.m. today at the Sportspark, 1400 N. Rampart Blvd., north of Summerlin Parkway. Also, registration for skating classes at the Sportspark begins Sept. 6. Call 233-3600.
Amateur radio test
An FCC-approved amateur radio exam will be given at noon Saturday at Community College of Southern Nevada, 700 College Drive, Henderson. For more information and pre-registration, call Tim Hunt at 872-5268.
Community leaders receive recognition
The Nevada chapter of the National Organization for Women honored five members of the community Saturday during its Women's Equality Day celebration, which commemorates women gaining the right to vote.
Those honored were Punam Mathur, director of community affairs at Mirage Resorts; Assemblyman David Parks; Justice of the Peace Nancy Oesterle; Conee Spano, director of the UNLV Women's Center; and Denise Mrochek of Moonstruck Gallery.
Boys and Girls Clubs
Laura Fritz has been named vice president of development of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas Foundation.
She said she plans to develop a comprehensive resource development plan for the foundation while creating strong ongoing relationships with members and prospects.
Safety awareness course
