RENO, Nev. -- A man convicted of preying upon the elderly has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for being a habitual criminal.

Robert Harrison Jennings was sentenced previously to more than 100 years in prison on eight convictions for felonies against the elderly.

Jennings was charged in a series of violent robberies against elderly victims in 1997. Some of the victims were severely beaten.

The Washoe County District Attorney's Office sought the habitual criminal status to prevent Jennings from ever being released from prison.

He was sentenced Wednesday by Washoe District Judge Steven Kosach.
