Outdoor Retailer trade show avidly sought

Reno officials are hoping that promises of ample hotel rooms and a remodeled and expanded Reno-Sparks Convention Center will win back the show.
The show, which generates about $15 million for the local economy, moved from Reno to Salt Lake City in 1996.
The show will be forced out of the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City in 2002 by the Winter Olympics.
Salt Lake City is trying to retain the winter 2002 show by moving it to a facility 12 miles south of the city. Las Vegas and Anaheim, Calif., also are vying for the show.
Officials of Outdoor Retailer - the world's largest trade show for the $4.4 billion outdoor industry - are expected to decide on the 2002 site by this fall.
If Reno is chosen, local convention officials hope they can secure the show's permanent return to northern Nevada.
Outdoor Retailer conducted both its winter and summer shows in Reno from 1987 to 1996.
