Letter: Straw poll no big deal for W.
Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999 | 9:37 a.m.
All the results proved were that the organizers for Texas Gov. George W. Bush got to the bus companies first, had the money to charter the most buses, and then trucked the most farmers to the charade they called the "Republican Caucus."
It was interesting to note in his speech that Bush said nothing and when it came to tough questions about his wild early life, he refused to answer whether he used cocaine or not.
There should have been a simple answer, yes or no, but not from slippery George. They once called President Clinton "Slick Willie," but they will have to come up with a new one for Bush, for he not only evaded going to Vietnam but now he will not answer questions or tell anyone where he stands on issues. He will ride the fence to the bitter end.
