Lightning-sparked fires in some of the remotest parts of Nevada have burned another 24,000 acres of grass, scrub and small trees since Wednesday.
The largest one, about 15 miles north of Carlin, exploded from 500 acres overnight to about 10,000 on Friday because of winds and backburns.
A 6,000-acre complex of fires six miles northwest of Jiggs held fairly steady on Friday. It is just east of the 225,000-acre Sadler fire that was controlled last week.
Another complex of fires 60 miles southwest of Battle Mountain has burned over 5,000 acres.
A fire 25 miles south of Jiggs has burned across 2,800 acres in the Mitchell Creek area and is 90 percent contained.
Another large fire raged through about 1,360 acres of grass, sage and light trees near Denio, north of Winnemucca and close to the Oregon line.
It has been contained, as has an 1,121-acre blaze 10 miles north of Winnemucca and a 1,344-acre fire 22 miles north of Winnemucca.
