Letter: Casino owners should loosen slots
Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 | 12:47 p.m.
I just got back from my third visit in a year and a half. Again no one on our tour (over 25 people) won $1,000 or more on slots at any casino.
What's going on Las Vegas? It seems that your chances to win get smaller with every passing year and the prices (especially food) keep going up.
The casino owners should realize that it's the middle class that allows them to live in the style to which they've become accustomed. Keep your slots tight and prices high and all those people, including seniors, who come to Las Vegas once or twice a year or more won't be able to return.
You'll run into the same problem that Disney is now in, attendance down because CEOs got too greedy.
I've been to casinos all over the country, including boats and Indian reservations, where it's not uncommon to see several people win jackpots in just a few hours. In Las Vegas this is a rarity.
Until I hear from more people that they are starting to win real money, I won't be back. I'll take my money to the small casinos that know who's been buttering their bread!
I hope others do the same. Maybe if we hit the owners where it hurts, they'll re-evaluate their business practices.
