Sierra Pacific Resources has filed an application to sell electricity through two subsidiaries to residential and business customers.
The company's Southern Nevada affiliate will be known as Nevada Power Services.
Nevada Power Co. and Sierra Pacific Resources Inc. merged last month. Beginning March 1, the state's electrical utility industry will be restructured to allow competition.
So far, one company -- Utility.com -- has been approved as a competitor in Nevada and applications are pending for Sierra Pacific and one other company.
