Two die in accident on I-80
Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999 | 12:57 p.m.
Investigators said the chain-reaction accident occurred when a flatbed tractor-trailer rig slowed abruptly after gusty winds whipped dust and ash from recent fires across the road.
The vehicle behind the rig, driven by Angela Wong, 19, of Beowawe, couldn't see the truck slowing and rant into the back of it. Her car was, in turn, hit by another.
Two passengers in her car, Edward Kurtz, 63, and his 49-year-old wife Lily, were killed instantly. Wong was taken to Elko General Hospital with multiple injuries.
None of the other people involved received serious injuries.
