Parents can learn about selecting pediatricians
University Medical Center's Baby Steps program invites parents to attend a free lecture by Dr. Beverly Neyland entitled "Ask a Pediatrician."
The program will be at 6:30 Tuesday at 1807 W. Charleston Blvd. (behind Del Taco on the corner of Shadow Lane). The class will help answer parents' questions on what to look for when selecting pediatricians for their children.
Cancer support group A new support group sponsored by the Cancer Institute of Nevada at Summerlin and hosted by Senior Advantage Resource Center will meet from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Summerlin Hospital in the Conference Room No. 1, 9310 Sun City Blvd., Suite No. 101. Call 363-1150.
Children's games in Spanish Songs and Fingerplay in Spanish is a free class being offered to new parents at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the UMC/CCSN Family to Family Connection Center, 1807 W. Charleston Blvd., to expose your baby to more than one language. To register for classes, call 833-7058.
Coyotes take the spotlight in canyon hike
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes and walks free of charge, but reservations are required for all programs, which begin at the Visitor's Center. To make reservations or for information call 363-1921. Some coming programs:
Tales of the Coyote: Hear myths and facts about the deserts most fascinating prowler. Take a 4-mile easy evening hike Monday and learn more about this animal.
Twilight Tuesday -- Moon and Stars: Hear facts and fables of the moon and stars Tuesday on this 2-to-3-mile moderate hike.
Club holding its annual ski swap
United Social and Ski Clubs of Las Vegas will hold its annual Ski and Snowboard Swap 7:45-9 p.m. Aug. 26 at Moose McGillycuddys, 4770 S. Maryland Parkway.
The nonprofit, year-round social club accommodates skiers and nonskiers alike.
The club is devoted to weekend and midweek trips for skiing, snowboarding, and other numerous trips and activities at group rates. Call 392-7669.
Training course planned on applying for funds
The Grantsmanship Center will conduct a comprehensive grant-writing training during the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 3 at the Department of Education's Building, 1820 E. Sahara, Suite No. 208.
The cost of this training is $595 for the first registrant with a $50 discount for additional registrants from the same agency. To insure personal attention, registration is limited to 23 participants. Call (800) 421-9512.
Learn about tumbling at special program
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is holding a variety of special programs. Call ahead to find out which programs require pre-registration.
Go For It: Ages 4 and older can learn creative movement and basic tumbling skills with the experts from the Go For It Academy at 1 p.m. at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave. Call 454-4649.
Art Of Fashion: All ages are welcome to bring a favorite book and wear a back-to-school outfit for a fashion show at 2 p.m. at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive. Call 256-1414.
Frogs, toads subjects for Saturday address
The Tortoise Group will host speaker Karin Hoff of UNLV at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Nevada State Museum at Lorenzi Park.
Hoff will talk about frogs and toads as environmental sentinels -- their sensitivity to human-induced changes in the environment such as water quality and electromagnetic fields. Call 739-8043.
Youth rally A free Jubilee Youth Rally will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Wellspring Church and Christian Center, 1401 N. Decatur Blvd., Suite No. 18. The movie premiere of "Judgment: The Trial of Commander Kellie" will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 in Suite No. 14. For more details, call 631-5027.

Church celebration Mountaintop Faith Ministries' grand opening celebration will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at 2845 Lindell Road. The celebration focuses on the multi-purpose center, phase one of the Vision for MFM and will accommodate weekly church meetings and administrative offices. Call 367-1636.
