Herrera, Kenny go to law school

Among the throngs of students who filed into the new William Boyd School of Law at UNLV early this week were Clark County Commissioners Dario Herrera and Erin Kenny.
The two weren't at the 2-year-old school doing background work for the board -- they've decided to hit the books.
On the second day of school, Kenny ditched most of the Clark County Commission meeting to attend classes. The second-term board member said she will attend school full time while representing residents in District F.
"I've committed myself to District F and to the county and I'm looking forward to being a better representative by gaining more knowledge," Kenny said. "It will only enhance my ability to serve."
Kenny said her courses are conducive to her part-time commission schedule. She said she will study in the evenings with her children.
"I'll do homework with my kids; it will be a family affair," Kenny said.
Kenny said she was admitted to UNLV last year but classes began during the last two months of her heated campaign against opponent Steve Harney. She said she considered starting her courses last year, but when the campaign turned dirty, it called for her full attention.
Herrera, who became a partner with Massmedia Inc. in January, said he took law courses at the University of Colorado at Boulder and believed he was ready to continue his education.
The first-term commissioner elected to the board in November said he too was accepted by UNLV last year.
"I recognized the campaign would take all my time in addition to my administrative position at the Community College; I couldn't do both," he said, referring to the job he left last winter. "I decided after the spring, when I got my feet wet as commissioner, I would like to finish my legal education."
