Fire chief job to stay

The chief's position would be abolished if contract talks with Reno are successful in having the city take over operations for the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. If talks fail, commissioners want to recruit for a new chief.
Simon is on her honeymoon but has said that her first choice for the job is assistant county manager Howard Reynolds.
Reynolds has the support of Commissioners Ted Short and Jim Galloway, who oppose pursuing a contract with Reno.
Commissioners Pete Sferrazza, Joanne Bond and Jim Shaw backed Acting Chief Marty Scheuerman on Tuesday and also said they endorse the Reno takeover of the firefighting operations.
