Changes made in Metro panel
The Clark County Commission on Tuesday approved an amendment to the ordinance that allows for a police review board to be formed after concerns were raised by Las Vegas officials.
The Las Vegas City Council objected to language that said only the county manager can appoint an executive director for the review board, which will be made up of citizens.
Commissioners changed the wording so that it says either the city or county manager can appoint the director. The board will adopt the ordinance Sept. 7; it will then be forwarded to the City Council for final approval.
County to build its own studio
Clark County will soon begin construction on a $400,000 television studio to house its government access Channel 4.
Commissioners approved the 1,900-square-foot studio that will be built in the Regional Flood Control District building just south of the County Government Center on Grand Central Parkway.
The county, which has been using facilities at UNLV, will continue to use the school's personnel. Along with weekly programs such as "Clark County Connections," the county's new call-in talk show -- which will feature commissioners -- will be taped in the studio.
Public hearing set on draft plan
County commissioners on Wednesday set a hearing for Sept. 21 for public comment on the county's draft plan to reduce carbon monoxide pollution.
The county also set a workshop for Aug. 25 to explain details of the plan to the public.
The plan, required by the federal Environmental Protection Agency, was due in May, but missing information on the amount of carbon monoxide produced by planes at McCarran International Airport caused its delay, county air-quality planner Russell Roberts told commissioners.
The Aug. 25 workshop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Organizational Development Center in the County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
