McCaw school needs mine-tour guides

McCaw School of Mines in Henderson needs volunteer tour guides. Each tour takes about 2 1/2 hours.

Volunteers can pick their own days to work. McCaw School of Mines is located at Gordon McCaw Elementary School in downtown Henderson.

Blood drive planned Saturday for public

You are cordially invited to the Ronald McDonald House from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at 2323 Potosi St.

Due to the shortage of blood in the community, the Ronald McDonald House felt it was only natural to partner with United Blood Services for this event.

"The children who stay here receive blood from their service" explained JoAnn Malone, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House. Call 252-4663.

Greenspun center hosts variety of classes

Barbara Greenspun Women'sCare Center of Excellence, 100 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite No. 140, addresses women's mind/body/spirit needs from an educational perspective, and offers a number of ongoing resources, including free or low-cost classes taught by qualified health care professionals.

Assertiveness Training: This class will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.

Breast feeding: This class is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Multicultural event scheduled at CCSN

Community College of Southern Nevada and the CCSN Center for Diversity will host It's A Kids Affair '99 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.

The multicultural event, free and open to the public, is co-sponsored by Piange Development Company.

The Las Vegas Valley children are invited to join the festivities at CCSN's Student Lounge in the main building on the Cheyenne Campus.

Starbucks employees plan cleanup of park

Dozens of Starbucks employees will team up from 6:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the Wetlands Visitors Center, 5800 Russell Road, to help clean a portion of the Clark County Wetlands Park.

The event is in support of a larger plan for the area, which includes preserving and restoring the wetlands habitat, as well as providing recreational and education opportunities for Southern Nevada.

The Starbucks group, known as the "Green Team," will be equipped with gloves and garbage bags. Call 869-1233 or 349-0021.

Gibson hosting fair, dance on Saturday

A Back to School Fair and Dance will be 5-9 p.m. Saturday at Gibson Leisure Service Center, 3900 W. Washington Ave.

Gibson Youth Council and Gibson Leisure Service Center are sponsoring a free school fair from 5-7 p.m. in the Gibson Middle School. It will feature free school supplies (until supplies run out), music, refreshments, entertainment, prizes, information booths, free immunizations, hair cuts and more.

A dance will follow for youths 11-16, from 7-9 p.m. There is an admission charge of $2 per person, $3 for couples. Call 229-2256.
