NLV sued by jail bosses

North Las Vegas jail supervisors say the new contract hammered out between the city and police union is unfair to them.
As a result, the supervisors at the North Las Vegas Detention Center on Friday filed a civil suit in District Court seeking an injunction to declare the collective bargaining agreement reached in June "invalid and unenforceable."
The suit was filed by attorney Victor Perri on behalf of 16 jail officers. The guard supervisors say that under the new contract they will receive unequal pay for the same work.
Jail supervisors say the North Las Vegas Police Officers Association Inc. negotiated in bad faith with the city of North Las Vegas, both of which were named as defendants in the suit. The NLV Detention/Corrections Department also is named as a defendant.
The contract gives North Las Vegas police lieutenants a 6 percent raise but gives jail guard lieutenants just 3.17 percent. North Las Vegas Police sergeants are getting a 4.08 percent raise compared with 1.67 for corrections sergeants, according to the lawsuit.
The original offer was 3.75 percent across the board for police and corrections sergeants and lieutenants, the lawsuit says.
The case has been assigned to District Judge Gene Porter.
