Letter: Don’t sell land to airport authority

I guess I have to believe the airport people when they say that McCarran Airport will be maxed out by the year 2015. And I think it's a great idea that they are already thinking about what they want to do about it.
But I really do not like their idea that they have to go to Congress right now and get a law that will tie up federal land in the middle of three wilderness areas for an airport they want to build 10-15 years from now.
The airport people say that there is only one place in all of Las Vegas Valley where they can possibly fit an airport, and that's down south in a dry lake near Jean in the Ivanpah Valley.
They say this -- even though the FAA has not done a feasibility study on the site -- or on any other site.
All three of these wilderness areas have been designated natural areas through processes that incorporated public input. The public has already spoken. The public wants these areas to be places where people can go to enjoy natural, wild areas, away from the bustle, noise and dirt of city living.
I am positive that I do not want a law right now that sells this land today to the airport authority!
