The man's identity was being withheld until his relatives could be notified.
The victim was found about 50 yards from shore in 60 to 70 feet of water and was flown to Washoe Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses directed deputies and other rescue personnel to a site near Indianhead off Route 446. Investigators said no other boats, trauma or other factors were involved.
