Las Vegas visitor volume jumped 13.3 percent in June from the same month a year ago, the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority said today.
So far this year, visitation to the Las Vegas market is up 9.6 percent from the first six months of 1998. With 16.5 million tourists and conventioneers visiting Las Vegas since January, the market appears headed for 33 million visitors this year.
The visitor increases have helped offset a 10.8 percent increase in room inventory from a year ago, a number that will rise even higher when the 2,900-room Paris-Las Vegas hotel-casino opens next month.
Air-passenger traffic rose 12.3 percent in June, the LVCVA said, and auto traffic from the key Southern California feeder market rose 12 percent.
The LVCVA said hotel occupancy rates rose 2.2 percentage points in June, to 92.5 percent from 90.3 percent in June 1998. Combined hotel and motel occupancy rose from 84.9 percent to 87.3 percent.
The LVCVA also reported a whopping 14 percent increase in room nights occupied, which indicates visitors are increasing the length of their stays.
Laughlin posted a 5.2 percent gain in visitor volume in June, the LVCVA said.
