CARSON CITY -- Nevada joined seven other states and the federal government in warning consumers about corporations and individuals that promise loans and credit cards for an advance fee, but never deliver them.
Deputy Attorney General Tracey J. Brierly said the goal is to better educate consumers. In some other states, she said suits are being filed to shut down these businesses. She said no suits are being brought in Nevada.
But she said in the past there have been negotiated settlements with some companies in Nevada ordering them to stop the practice.
Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa said these companies advertise they have money to loan regardless of the credit history of the consumer.
