Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999 | 12:08 p.m.

Ford Credit, the finance arm of Ford Motor Co., said it's establishing a service center in Las Vegas that will create up to 600 jobs.

Ford Credit already has a branch office in Las Vegas employing 32 people and it will remain open, officials said.

Ford said the Las Vegas credit service center is expected to be operational in 2000. It's being established as part of a program in which Ford is restructuring its credit operations.

Functions housed in 141 North American branch offices will be relocated to eight regional service centers including the Las Vegas operation. These functions include loan servicing activities like collections, accounting and account administration.

The location of the Las Vegas center has yet to be determined.

Based in Dearborn, Mich., Ford Credit said it earned $335 million in the second quarter, up 12 percent from the year-ago period. The company has $135 billion in receivables.
