Letter: Psychiatry can’t stop violence
Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999 | 9:36 a.m.
The problem is their underlying theme that no one is responsible for their actions. Then they give their "patients" (substitute victims) drugs that give them the feeling they are not responsible for anything and go on a rampage that puts the rest of us in harm's way.
Enough is enough. What do you expect people to do when you tell them they are not responsible for what they do, then give them drugs to make sure their thinking is impaired beyond reasonable actions. They will go out and find a target for their misery, instead of trying to solve it.
It is time to take away the ability of psychiatry to dispense drugs. Take away their funding from public coffers (I don't want my tax money supporting this insanity). I understand there are some people who don't have family or religious affiliations to help them out in times of trouble, so if someone wants to pay money to have these people to talk to, fine. But let's put a stop to their actions, which are putting the rest of us and particularly our children at risk.
