Profit falls for slot route operator

Jackpot Enterprises Inc. of Las Vegas reported a fourth quarter profit of $300,000 or 3 cents per share, down from $1.8 million or 20 cents for the year-ago quarter.
Jackpot blamed the decline on a $2.1 million charge for the termination of a merger with Carnival Resorts & Casinos and the closing of the Owl Club casino in Battle Mountain, Nev.
Jackpot still intents to merge with Players International Inc.
The company said that before the charges, quarterly operating income increased $200,000 to $2.2 million.
Thanks mainly to new locations, gaming machine route revenues increased 8.2 percent to $24.7 million.
