Hotel-casino sues insurer over fire

Friday, Aug. 6, 1999 | 11:41 a.m.

Ruffin Gaming LLC of Las Vegas filed suit against Fireman's Fund Insurance Co., alleging the company failed to reimburse Ruffin for losses and damages caused by a fire in its New Frontier hotel-casino tower on the Las Vegas Strip.

The suit said the fire on May 29, 1998, caused substantial damage and prevented many of its rooms from being rented for several months.

The plaintiff alleged Fireman's Fund failed to make adequate investigation before withholding benefits due to the hotel.

It also alleged Fireman's Fund failed to provide a reasonable basis for denying its claims and acted in its own financial interests at the expense of Ruffin's rights.

The defendant declined to comment on the allegations.
