Details of two alternatives the National Forest Service is considering for housing and related aspects at Grand Canyon National Park:

Alternative 1

-Provides 110 total acres of federal land for development.

-Includes 40 acres for community facilities like schools.

-Gives 10 acres to the park and forest service for housing.

Alternative 2

-Provides 270 total acres for Canyon Forest Village.

-Allows space for 1,270 hotel rooms and 270,000 square feet of retail space - enough for four large department stores.

-Leases 20 acres to house people working at Grand Canyon National Park.

-Makes 50 housing units available for residents of the surrounding area.

-Creates INSIGHT, an informational center designed to educate visitors about the Colorado Plateau.

-Allocates 1 percent of gross business revenues to finance the Kaibab Institute, an independent body that makes sure leaders use only the resources they were originally provided.
