A Las Vegas man is one of two finalists for the post of dean of the University of Nevada School of Medicine.
David Schapira, the associate dean of the medical school, will be challenged by Robert Miller, a vice chancellor at Tulane University's Medical School in New Orleans.
"I'm very proud of the committee's work to find two excellent candidates for dean," said Dr. William Zamboni, southern co-chairman for the school's search committee and the chief of the school's Division of Plastic Surgery.
"The committee showed a lot of vision. Either one of these men would make an excellent dean."
The committee, comprised of Northern and Southern Nevada representatives, narrowed the original field of applicants from 64 to a short list of six, from which two were picked.
University of Nevada, Reno President Joe Crowley will make the final decision. He can either offer the post to one of the committee's two choices or interview other finalists.
Schapira, 49, is a cancer specialist who has served as the No. 2 man at the school for two years. Miller, 52, is an ear-nose-and-throat specialist who was a Tulane professor for a dozen years and has been an administrator the past two years.
