Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999 | 10:49 a.m.

Orlando Sandoval, a longtime Community College of Southern Nevada official and a Latin Chamber of Commerce board member, has been appointed to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District board.

Sandoval was appointed to the four-year post by a 6-0 vote of the Clark County Commission at Tuesday's public meeting.

Sandoval, the vice president of planning and administrative services for the community college, replaces fellow Henderson resident Sherry Layne, whose term had expired.

Sandoval, the Latin Chamber of Commerce professional of the year in 1995 and Hispanic of the year in 1997, was one of 13 applicants for the post. Among the other applicants were former Lt. Gov. Lonnie Hammargren and former Assemblyman Rick Bennett.

A Vietnam War veteran, Sandoval has been employed by the community college for 14 years and serves on the committee that will select a new Clark County School District superintendent.

Sandoval also serves on the CCSD Bond Oversight Committee, the Clark County Finance Oversight Committee and the State of Nevada Planning Commission.

He is married with two children.
