DOE workers learn security techniques

Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999 | 10:39 a.m.

At the Nevada Test Site, 3,500 federal and contract employees spent Tuesday learning how to keep information secure in their computers, offices and laboratories.

The Department of Energy worked with employees at the Nevada Test Site, the North Las Vegas Nevada Operations Office and the Remote Sensing Laboratory at Nellis Air Force Base, where a team is ready to respond to a nuclear accident anywhere in the world.

New DOE security chief Eugene Habiger suggested the third stand-down that affected sites such as those in Nevada after accusations of stolen nuclear weapons designs by the Chinese surfaced earlier this year.
