FBI agent to speak to Jewish post

Residents provided free screenings

Take It To Heart is a joint venture between the National Medical Association and Bayer Corporation, Pharmaceutical Division. The project will provide free health screenings to Las Vegas residents 11 a.m. Sunday at the Doolittle Community Center, 1940 N. J Street. Call 778-2018.

Youngsters complete camp with performance

Participants of the Performance and Visual Arts Camp 1999 will perform drama, music and dance as part of their final presentation of this eight-week camp at 6 p.m. Thursday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Call 647-8169 for free tickets.

Trash pickup planned at lake picnic area

As part of the Lake Mead Sunrise Beach Cleanup-Clean the Lake Day, the park staff have organized litter awareness days throughout the summer. Join park staff on an early-morning litter pickup and walk at 6 a.m. Aug. 21 at the Boulder Beach Picnic Area and the Overton Beach Ranger Station. Large groups are encouraged to call ahead so an ample supply of bags and protective gloves will be available. Call 293-8918.

Wild horses can be adopted over Internet

In the nation's first wild horse satellite adoption, to be held Friday, qualified adopters will be given the chance to adopt about 50 mares and foals, 42 geldings and 38 stallions. View all 180 horses scheduled for this adoption by the Bureau of Land Management on the Internet, www.nv.blm.gov/whpairs/ 2satellite.htm to inspect the animals.

To bid, an individual must be pre-qualified and assigned a bid number by the BLM. A toll free number has been set up for those who wish to participate or need more information. Call (800) 633-6094. Bidders may be from any state but must be pre-approved. Bidding will start at $125 per horse or $250 per pair (for a mare and foal).

ChildSpree event held for youths

Mervyn's California will hold its seventh annual ChildSpree for 115 kids from area non-profit organizations including the Boys and Girls Club, Paul Culley Elementary, and Cyril Weingert Elementary School. Mervyn's California stores will host the event for under-privileged children beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday at the 1155 E. Twain Ave., 4700 Meadows Lane and 1300 S. Nellis Blvd.

The Las Vegas Housing Authority will be hosting a back-to-school celebration 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at the Rafael Community Center, 2900 Stewart Street, and will be providing school supplies to 800 low-income community youth. Call 385-2009.
