Nine local childcare centers sold

La Petite of Overland Park, Kan., the nation's second-largest provider of preschool education, acquired all of Minneapolis-based Bright Start stock for $9.3 million to increase its presence in Nevada and New Mexico and create new markets in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
The preschool provider, which also assumed $2 million in debt as part of the deal, bought five Bright Start childcare centers in Las Vegas, one in North Las Vegas and three in Henderson. There are four existing La Petite academies in Las Vegas and two in Henderson.
Bright Start operates 44 preschool facilities in four states.
