Letter: God not mentioned in our Constitution
Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999 | 8:54 a.m.
The phrase was not even incorporated in the Pledge of Allegiance until it was inserted in the administration af the Great Communicator to placate the "moral majority."
The term "under God" was piously mouthed at the Inquisition, the Salem witch trials, the Crusades and the Reformation, where hundreds of thousands were tortured and killed in the shadow of the cross, in the name of God.
Some of the most responsible and moral people I have known have been agnostics.
Some of the most deceitful and devious have been sanctimonious Christians.
