Mirage Resorts Chairman Steve Wynn is expected to announce the move in a news conference Tuesday. Gans will be featured in the new 1,280-seat Danny Gans Theater.
Gans has been the headliner at the Rio Suite Hotel and Casino since January 1997.
Last week David Cassidy was announced as the Rio's new headliner, taking over in the Copacabana Showroom in mid-January.
Gans is expected to debut at the Mirage April 1.
The details of Gans' multi-year contract with the Mirage have yet to be announced.
Gans was released from his original contract with the Rio after the hotel announced Cassidy's deal last week. Gans' contract ran through the end of January.
In recent months Gans, who has expressed his desire to be a headliner at a major Strip resort, has been pursued by several hotels.
Gans began his career as a Las Vegas headliner at the Stratosphere hotel-casino in May 1996, then moved to the Rio, just west of the Strip. Gans has also been an opening act in Las Vegas and has performed on Broadway.
Gans is scheduled to release a new CD of Christian pop music in February. The filming of a Gans TV sitcom pilot, set in Las Vegas and produced by Aaron Spelling, was delayed until the fall of 2000 to allow him to get settled at The Mirage.
