State reinstates nursing home

Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 | 11:45 a.m.

The state Medicaid division has reinstated its contract with the Cheyenne Residential and Nursing Center.

The North Las Vegas nursing home, located at 2860 E. Cheyenne Ave., lost its federal contract March 31 and was ordered not to accept any more Medicaid residents. The facility had been cited by the state Bureau of Licensure and Certification for several violations.

The nursing home was ordered to implement a patient care plan, detailing how patients would be accessed when they arrived. The state also wanted the facility to better evaluate residents' daily living activities and track their medications more precisely.

The home, which can house up to 188 residents, had been fined $3,000 a day by Medicaid, when it lost its contract.

"There were still some deficiencies, but they were able to submit a plan for corrections," said Lisa Jones, health facilities surveyor with the state Bureau of Licensure and Certification. "No resident is in danger at this time."

Jones said the state agency did an unannounced survey on April 15, following Medicaid's revocation of the contract. The home, as required of all nursing facilities, will be subject to another unannounced annual survey.

The nursing home is managed by Integrated Health Services Inc. of Owings Mills, Md. It had also been cited five times last year by the state. Medicaid had put it on probation and levied a fine of $50 a day. The fines were lifted when improvements were made.

This was the first time state Medicaid revoked the home's federal contract.
