Letter: Interfaith Center is thriving, not failing

Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 | 9:39 a.m.

The Interfaith Student Center at UNLV is very much alive and well and thriving, despite the information reported in a Las Vegas Sun article by Stacey J. Willis on June 7 titled "Keeping the Faith."

Unfortunately, Willis must have been misinformed because the article continually intertwined the reported fate of one group of the Interfaith Center, Protestant Campus Ministry, with the survival of the center itself.

Fortunately, the center and the Protestant Campus Ministry are far from ready to close their doors. We feel that from reading Willis' article people were given the impression that the Protestant Campus Ministry was dismantling and therefore, so was the Interfaith Student Center.

The center is actually the strongest it has ever been, with an active board of directors, a dedicated staff and successful fundraisers and events.

In addition, we are encouraged by the changes being implemented by the Protestant denominations for the upcoming year and we will work closely with them, as always, to do whatever we can to help ensure their success.

In addition, The Catholic Newman Club and Hillel are doing extremely well, with hundreds of students participating in a full range of programming and services.
