SCUBA WORKSHOPS

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two beginner's scuba diving workshops 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday and on Aug. 31. Both workshops will be held at the Lorin L. Williams Indoor Pool, 500 N. Palo Verde Drive.

Enrollment in either workshop is $10. Participation is open to those 15 years of age or more, 12 if accompanied by an adult. For more information call 565-2123.

PHYSICALS FOR CHILDREN

St. Rose UrgentCare offices in Henderson will offer school and sport physicals Monday through Sunday through September. Walk-in appointments are welcome. The physicals are for children who attend day care and preschool as well as elementary, middle and high school.

Physicals for sports are also available. The fee is $20 per physical.

General physicals include a lung, weight, eye and throat check as well as a urinalysis. Sport physicals for boys include a hernia check.

Parents are encouraged to bring the appropriate school form to complete the physicals. Call 914-7100 or 914-7110.

COLLEGE PREPARATION

To prepare new and first-year students for college studies, Community College of Southern Nevada will conduct four advisement and registration workshops as part of its fall enrollment campaign.

The workshops are Aug. 5 at the Henderson campus, Aug. 12 at the Charleston campus and Aug. 25 at the Cheyenne campus. Times are by reservation, with each workshop able serve at least 300.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

St. Rose Dominican Hospital, located at 105 E. Lake Mead Drive and several area business are providing school supplies to homeless and underserved children through various dropoff sites, including the St. Rose UrgentCare. The community is encouraged to donate a variety of supplies: pencils, pens, crayons, paper, calculators, backpacks and locks. Call 566-7530.

LAS VEGAN HONORED

James E. Rogers, a Las Vegas resident, has been selected the Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year by the Southern Arizona chapter of the National Society of Fund-raising Executives. Rogers, an alumnus of the University of Arizona, shattered previous records when he committed $130 million to the university's Tucson campus for its law school, which now bears his name. A ceremony will take place Nov. 18 in Tucson. Rogers practiced law in Las Vegas from 1964 to 1988.

DENNY AND FRIENDS Bobbie Jean Denny and Friends will entertain for underprivileged and battered women at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Stupak Center, 329 Boston St. Bobbi Jean Denny was a guest vocalist with Les Brown and His Band of Renown. The event is sponsored by the Las Vegas Metro Police.

WEENY ROAST Children from 3 1/2 to 7 and their families are invited by the Department of Leisure Services, to a Teeny Weeny Roast from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Aloha Shores Park, Buffalo Drive and Cheyenne Ave. Call 229-2256.
