Today is last chance to vote early
Friday, April 30, 1999 | 11:38 a.m.
Today is the last chance for early birds to cast their ballots before Tuesday's primary election.
Judging from the response at early voting sites throughout Clark County this year, voters seem to like avoiding the last-minute politicking and advertising bombardment.
Through Thursday, 10,978 people had cast ballots in Las Vegas' municipal election, the first in which city voters could vote early.
"I've been very pleased with the early voting totals," Las Vegas City Clerk Barbara Jo "Roni" Ronemus said. "If this is any indication of how early voting will go in future years, we'll probably continue it."
Early voting opened April 9 and closes at 6 tonight at all Las Vegas sites, except the Meadows mall polls, which will accept voters until 7:30 p.m.
More than 17,000 voters countywide had cast early ballots through Thursday, according to the Clark County Elections Department.
Nearly 3,300 voters had cast early ballots in Henderson; 1,992 in Boulder City; 603 in North Las Vegas and 722 in Mesquite through Thursday.
In Las Vegas, voters can still cast early ballots at the city clerk's office in City Hall, 400 E. Stewart Ave.; at the Meadows mall at Valley View Boulevard and U.S. 95 and at the Rancho Santa Fe Theaters, 5101 N. Rainbow Blvd.
The Meadows mall has proven the most popular of the early voting sites -- with 7,617 Las Vegas voters casting ballots there through Thursday.
Early voting in Las Vegas was also offered at the Community College of Southern Nevada's Charleston campus, at the Lucky grocery store at East Bonanza Road and Eastern Avenue and at the Summerlin Library.
Henderson voters can cast early ballots today at the city clerk's office in Henderson City Hall or at the Galleria mall. Boulder City, Mesquite and North Las Vegas voters can cast early votes at each of their respective city clerk's offices today.
In addition to the 17,558 who cast early ballots countywide, another 9,000 voters will be casting absentee ballots for the Las Vegas municipal primary election. Those ballots are due to the city clerk's office by the time regular polls close at 7 p.m. next Tuesday.
