ST. LOUIS -- Argosy Gaming Co. announced plans to build a $12 million landing complex for its Alton Belle Casino at Alton, Ill., which is 30 miles north of St. Louis on the Mississippi River.
Casino general manager Brenda Bauer said the dock will have the atmosphere of a turn of the century warehouse district, the Post-Dispatch newspaper reported.
The Spirit of America, one of two barges that will make up the new dockside complex, has twin 90-foot smokestacks and the appearance of a Mississippi sidewheeler of a century ago, the Post-Dispatch reported.
Panoramic river views will be offered from a 220-seat buffet and a 120-seat restaurant on the Spirit of America. It also will have a snack bar and a 50-seat bar.
