CARSON CITY -- Assembly Majority Leader Richard Perkins said today that chances are good for financing a study to begin a four-year state college in Henderson.
Perkins, D-Henderson, said he has found some money in the $3.2 billion budget of Gov. Kenny Guinn that can be used. He declined to say what programs would be affected by the transfer of funds.
Assembly Bill 220 calls for $1 million to fund the feasibility study. Perkins said that will be reduced. He will also seek private funds to help pay for the study.
He said the findings of the Economic Forum Thursday should help. It made its official forecast that there will be an extra $70 million available in the next two years to pay for state programs.
Once other major decisions are made on the biennial budget, Perkins said he expects his bill to move toward passage.
