Letter: Care, caregivers hurt by bottom line

AB586 is a good start to setting some standards based on quality indicators as well as setting forth a system for determining staffing that includes input from direct care nurses. We have, for the most part, been excluded from that decision-making process.
As a matter of fact, hospitals could probably save some money by eliminating managerial and administrative nursing positions and have the rest of us report directly to the accounting department.
As far as responding to the idea that our hospitals are overregulated, all I can say is that the regulatory bodies in place at this time are pretty much "paper tigers."
