Henderson schedules ceremony on Friday

The Henderson's official Arbor Day ceremony will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Civic Center Amphitheater, 200 Water St.

Highlights will include a proclamation from Mayor Jim Gibson, a flag presentation by the Basic High School ROTC color guard, and an Arbor Day play performed by the Flora and Fauna Players of the Basic High drama club. Call 565-4264.

Sunset Station donated 600 one-gallon trees to the celebration. Schoolchildren who attend will each receive one of the trees.

Children's Miracle Network will benefit from event

The Boulder Dam Credit Union will sponsor a walk-a-thon, Step Into Spring, to benefit University Medical Center's Children's Miracle Network Saturday.

The 3-mile fun walk will start at Boulder City's Governor's Park. Registration is $15 prior to the event, and $20 on the day of the event. Call 293-7777.

Benefit on Saturday for Elizondo fund

The annual 5K and 10K Menudo Run will be held 7 a.m. Saturday at the Fiesta hotel-casino to benefit the Officer Raul Elizondo Scholarship Fund.

Cost is $18 for the 10K, $14 for the 5K, and $12 for the 1-Mile Fun Walk/Run. Call 645-9618 or e-mail MRMENUDO@netnevada.net.

Kindergartner needs liver transplant

A kindergarten student at Bartlett Elementary School is in need of a liver transplant. The community has rallied to offer support to the Parish family and their son, Joey.

A fund-raiser "J.A.W.S. for Joey" will be 4-5:30 p.m. Saturday at 1961 Wigwam Parkway in Henderson. Lied Museum hosts festival on Friday

A science festival will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

The festival, sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Nevada Bell, focuses on observing the world from both up close and far away. Cost is $5 for adults and $4 for children 2 through 17, seniors and military. Call 382-3445.

Cancer Society will host 24-hour event

The American Cancer Society's national signature fund-raising event "Relay For Life" is a 24-hour event that will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at UNLV's track.

Teams of 10 to 15 will walk, run, jog and even push baby strollers around a track for 24 hours. When not on the track, teams will pitch tents for an overnight camp-out. Call the American Cancer Society, 798-6877.
