Cimarron-Memorial junior Chris Harris, a two-time defending state wrestling champion, finished fifth among 132-pounders Wednesday in the Greco-Roman division of the Western Junior Regionals.
Harris, who won his weight class at last year's event, went 5-2 with three pins against a tough field. "I wrestled against much tougher competition this year than when I won the gold last year," Harris said.
The freestyle portion of the United States National Wrestling Championships continues today with the first of two days of freestyle competition at the Las Vegas Convention Center. As many as 30 Nevada athletes are expected to enter.
