Letter: Undisciplined kids can create problems
Tuesday, April 27, 1999 | 11:47 a.m.
In the early days of our country, and indeed as late as the early 1900s, we still had one-room schools. If some disturbed kid wanted to, he could have wiped out everyone in the school with one Springfield Repeater and a couple of Colt revolvers!
The reason the above scenario didn't take place then is simple. If a kid showed signs of disrespect or disobedience, he was taken to the woodshed! Too bad it's illegal today to give an unruly child a good tanning. No, today's authorities would rather charge the parents with child abuse and excuse the child's bad behavior.
The child continues his errant ways until one day he seeks revenge for a minor act he dislikes. So he goes down to the gas station and buys a couple of gallons of gas, brings it home and mixes it with some laundry detergent and (voila!) he has enough napalm to destroy a good sized building.
Wake up, attorneys general! Change some laws so unruly children can be administered a "good lickin' " once in a while and you'll see some swift attitude changes for the better. And while you're at, it reinstate corporal punishment in schools.
In case you're wondering, I've raised six children and I'm proud of each and every one of them.
