Investigators said a utility vehicle driven by Luseane Vite ran off the edge of the highway, then flipped as she overcorrected. Three of the nine occupants were thrown from the vehicle in the accident at daybreak Monday.
Taufa Hgatu, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene and 4-year-old Carolyn Masiva died at Elko General Hospital.
The driver's husband, Apolisi, 30, and their 3-year-old daughter, Mona Lisa, were flown to hospitals in Salt Lake City.
Four other youngsters were taken to Elko General with moderate injuries. Investigators said only the driver appeared to have been wearing a seat belt.
