Councilwoman warned to avoid polls

North Las Vegas Councilwoman Paula Brown was reminded last week by City Clerk Eileen Sevigny of the legal distance required between candidates and voting areas.
The voting booths for early voting in the primary election are located in the entrance of North Las Vegas City Hall. By law, candidates are not allowed to be within 100 feet of the polling areas.
Brown, who was reportedly criticized for offering tours through areas of City Hall during early election time, which caused her to be too near to the voting booths, said the tours were not the issue.
"Unfortunately that's where I work," she said, adding that passing through the area to get to her office poses a logistical problem.
In the past, the voting polls were tucked away in the city clerks office, Brown said.
"I'm sure they will think about where they put (the voting area) next month," she added. "It creates a huge logistical problem for everybody."
Sevigny said the tours were the main issue. "If you're going to be with the tour around the voting machines, it's a problem," she said.
Brown was not told to end the tours, Sevigny said. She was only reminded of the 100-foot law.
As far as passing the booths to enter the building, Sevigny said a south entrance into the building can be used to avoid them entirely.
