South Tahoe Middle School at South Lake Tahoe, Calif., was evacuated at 1:26 p.m. after a telephoned bomb threat, school officials said.
All students were sent home safely but had to leave their possessions and back packs at the school while police searched the building.
Officers did not immediately discover any explosive devices, but evening activities at the school also were canceled. School was scheduled to resume on Tuesday.
Earlier Monday, classes were delayed for about 90 minutes at Hug High School after a bomb threat caused police to search the building.
Reno police received a call about 7 a.m. saying there was a bomb at the school, school district spokesperson Sonya Gordon said.
Reno and school district police evacuated the building and students arriving for the start of school at 8 a.m. were not allowed to enter.
No threatening devices were discovered and students were allowed back into the school at 9:39 a.m.
Several students told the Sparks Daily Tribune they were taking the bomb threat more seriously than usual in light of last week's killings at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo.
Billie Ann Formico, a 16-year-old sophomore at the school, said many students left during or after the bomb search. She said she was rattled by the threat and went home after her third-period class.
"With the whole Columbine thing, I did not feel safe," she said. "I mean, Hug is a great school, but I just did not feel safe."
